OE Living: How to pack for a weekend in the country.

Escaping to the country sometime soon? We love nothing more than packing up the car and heading out of the city for the weekend. With just two short days to fill with fun, packing smart for a minibreak is essential. Here is the OE packing guide for a weekend in the country.

The cosy cover all

The parka is having a serious moment right now, and while its ideal for the urban school run, it also looks perfectly at home on a country yomp. We love this fur trimmed version from one of our favourite independent boutiques Katie&jo.

Field to pub boots

Trust us when we tell you we have stood in more muddy fields that most, (the price to pay for outdoorsy husbands), we have tried just about every boot out there and Sorel Footwear beat the pack hands down.  Warm in even the chilliest temperatures, completely waterproof and utterly chic – Sorel boots are a lifetime investment piece and will see you through many a muddy walk.

Pop of colour sweater

Nothing brightens a winter complexion like a pop of colour. Find one in a warm wool or cashmere and pack it with basic separates for a perfect weekend capsule wardrobe.

PJs to be proud of

Ditch the aged jammies for some nightwear to show off over breakfast. There is nothing nicer than snuggling up in proper pyjamas after a lovely long day in the country. We adore these crisp cotton PJs from Bodas.

Time out travel candle

Turn every mini break in to a spa trip by popping a travel candle in your luggage. Carrying your own candle in your favourite scent ensures you can enjoy some down time or a long hot bath before supper. We love these mini voluspa tin candles. Pop the lid on and reuse on all your trips. Dreamy.

Don’t waste you precious weekend away on time consuming beauty regime. Instead find products that can double up and leave you feeling fresh faced and nourished.  From hot cloth cleansing to lip balm, the Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm works for us.

Pick up and go bag

Lightweight luggage with lots of compartments is a must when packing for a weekend away. We recommend a grab and go duffle that can expand and be squashed in to a fully packed car. The new travel range by nappy bag specialists Storksak fits the bill perfectly and come in so many shapes and sizes you are bound to find a bag to suit your packing style.
