Our Wardrobe Heroes

Feature 2

We love fashion. There is such a buzz from buying the latest bang on trend dress or accessory to update your outfit. But we love style even more and really cherish our classic staples that we know always look good. Items that can work well with lots of different looks and can be dressed up or down and, while not necessarily adhering to the very latest trend, always look fashionable.

So here is the first in a series of our ‘wardrobe heroes’ where we will talk you though the clothes, shoes and accessories we swear by. Today we are looking a our top casual picks.

The Breton Top

So we know we’re not actually French but we certainly want to look like we are! A Breton top is the perfect way to inject some instant Gaelic style to your wardrobe. We have them in all different colours but a nothing really beats the classic navy and white combo.

The leather skinnies

Lets start by saying that these don’t have to be real. We have the genuine article but honestly the cheaper ones from Zara and Topshop are just as good. Club Monaco do a fantastic pair that are faux leather on the front and jersey on the back. They are so comfortable. Leather trousers or leggings can be dressed up or down. For a slightly more edgy look go for bikers with a few zips. We have also recently discovered faux suede skinnies which are a great twist on this look.

The biker jacket

If you don’t already own a leather biker then start off with a black one – but then don’t stop there. This is the most versatile jacket you will ever buy so add different colours to your collection and you’ll find you have one that can go over pretty much any outfit imaginable. We love a dark navy and grey version too.

Topshop, £165

The camel coat

A camel coat over denim is a completely failsafe combination. The two were made for each other and form the basis for so many of our favourite outfits. Throw in a grey cashmere sweater and chic handbag (more on them in our must-have accessories feature next week) and you have the perfect smart casual look.

The denim shirt

On it’s own, open over a vest or under a sweatshirt. Perfect, hardworking staple.

The simple cashmere sweater

Cosy but chic, this item forms the backbone of many a great outfit. With jeans for day or a leather mini by night. Go completely plain or look for subtle little details that make it stand out just enough but not too much – this is not a statement piece, rather a must-have staple. Slightly oversized is always a good option.

The stylish trainers

Lets face it, we live in these. Whether we are chasing around after kids or dashing to a meeting, we rely on the comfort and ease of our trainers, but we won’t compromise on style. White is reliably easy to mix and match with anything but we also like to add a pop of colour with these too.
