The hardest part about keeping a journal is remembering to actually write it. And the same goes for the OE Editors’ Diary!!! In fact we simply can’t believe that the Easter holidays are already upon us. The first quarter of the year has flown by.
While family life has been keeping us busy, and we have been lucky enough to enjoy a few trips away, we have been keeping track on the major world events that are shaping and shaking the nation.
Our Edit is growing every month, and we are so grateful for all our contributors. From Persia Lawson of Addictive Daughter, to the ever stylish Jo Nicholson of Katie and Jo, not to mention our wonderful regular columnists Janey Holliday and Elisa Colton, we have some truly awesome women supporting us and we have loved hearing and sharing their voices here on the site.
We’ve been listening to your feedback too, mixing up our fashion features with our regular Wardrobe Heroes series, and also taking a deeper look at the issues that matter to our readers via special focus weeks. Our self-care week was so insightful and informing, even for us, and we are planning an upcoming series on modern motherhood, so watch out for that.
Now that the sun is finally shining, we are so enjoying being out and about with the kids, and our Friday day trips with our youngest two are ring fenced, such important family time.
Easter holidays start today, so Morag is off to the Caribbean with the family this weekend, while I am off to a wedding I know is going to be completely fabulous, before heading to our favourite spot by the coast for Easter.
The rest of the Spring will be spent building on my branding consultancy, which is keeping me busy to say the least. While Morag has her hands full in quite a different way – as she welcomes the latest member of the Our Edit family, her adorable new spaniel puppy Chloe. Safe to say there isn’t a huge amount of work getting done at our editorial meetings this week!!!!
Pics of the pup to follow…..Happy Easter everyone!!!
Happy New Year!
Last week I was in New York while Trump’s inauguration was taking place and witnessed the Woman’s March on 5th Avenue first hand. It was truly amazing to see thousands of women with their pink hats and placards taking a stance against a president who doesn’t represent them or, it would appear, recognise their rights.
There can be no doubt that this year will be one where the political turmoil we experienced last year continues to play out as Brexit becomes a reality and we are forced to accept Trump in the White House.
However, as the women who marched all over the world showed us, it is also a time when we can make our voices heard and take control over our own lives, even if we feel somewhat powerless to alter a political landscape that we don’t agree with.
With all this in mind we have been considering the changes we want to make to make this year. Top of the list is to be more mindful, more present in our lives, more conscious of our thoughts and how we can best channel them. You can read about this in our feature about the power of Mindfulness.
In practical terms making sure every element of our lives are more organised will help us achieve this. Last week we wrote a number of features in our ‘detox’ series discussing the best ways to manage and organise our health, homes and wardrobes. By having these key elements of our lives in order we are able to focus on the most important things, our families, friends and some precious time to ourselves.
We are also filling our shinny new diaries with all the lovely things that punctuate our year – holidays, get-togethers with friends, special events. We’ve even booked our tickets for the Justin Bieber concert in Hyde Park in July! Some things just have to be pencilled in early!
They don’t call it the ‘most wonderful time of the year’ for nothing. While December is undoubtedly the busiest month in the calendar, it’s also the most fun.
It’s a time when we get to revel in the tradition of decorating our homes and preparing all the little details that make Christmas special for us and our families.
We have loved making everything from Christmas wreaths to mince pies – and writing about it all here on Our Edit.
From our wrapping and gift guides, to the sequin dresses and Christmas PJs we chose for our fashion features, everything we include is truly OE Approved.
As the magazine enters its fifth month we continue to be delighted with all the lovely feedback we are getting from our readers. We hope that our Christmas wish lists gave you lots of good ideas for your own Christmas presents – because frankly you all deserve to wake up to something fabulous on the 25th!
We know that just like us you will have been dashing around trying to create a wonderful Christmas for your families, constantly writing to do lists that never seem to end!
The presents, the cards, the food, the parties – as soon as you tick one box there is always something to organise in December. Not to mention the costumes for nativity plays. But seeing our children perform in these and in carol concerts really is the highlight of the month.
We also enjoyed a wonderful traditional carol service at Westminster Abbey – what an amazing place. And next week we have a trip to Lapland UK planned which we know our children will love.
The parties seemed to start even earlier than usual this year and we’ve loved dressing up and enjoying Christmas drinks. But there is one more big bash to look forward to for us OE girls. I’m hosting my annual Christmas drinks at my house this Saturday night and I can’t wait to welcome all my friends into my home.
Next week we all head up to our family home in the Highlands. We are so looking forward to Christmas with our family and hopefully some snow! Rowan is spending New Year in the Cotswolds and I am off to sunny Florida. But we will be back in January and can’t wait to grow our magazine and readership further with more fantastic features. We have big plans for Our Edit in 2017!
Till then we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
Planning and Parties!
How can it already be November? This past month has flown by. Since the launch of Our Edit just 5 weeks ago, it is safe to say our feet have not touched the ground. We have been overwhelmed by messages of support and great feedback on the site. It’s amazing to know that already so many people are reading and enjoying our magazine.
From meeting PRs and brands, to producing our daily features, our latest baby has kept us very busy – and we love it!
Of course, family life goes on too. We enjoyed a wonderful celebration in the Highlands a few weeks ago, marking out parents’ 40th Wedding anniversary. Morag then stayed on to enjoy half term at our family holiday home. The kids love the fresh air up there and it is the perfect antidote to hectic London life. A much needed escape for Morag, the renovations to her gorgeous house are finally coming together, but I think time away from the builders and paint charts did her a lot of good.
Meanwhile I was back in London for client meetings and planning the next few weeks of Our Edit. The highlight of my month though has to be celebrating my little girl’s first birthday. Reaching the first birthday is a massive milestone for any new mummy, and I have spent the month reminiscing about the past year and all that it has brought. Of course we had to celebrate in style, with a big birthday tea party at home. Lots of little friends and even more birthday cake– after all, you are only one once!
We rounded off October in style – with a mega Halloween party at Morag’s house. Lots of sugar and excitement for the kids, and it is safe to say we loved the excuse to get dressed up and decorate the house with all things spooky.
And now it is November, we are looking ahead to Christmas. Truly our favourite time of the year, so gift lists, decoration planning and outfit ideas start early for us and we will be sharing all our ideas and style tips on Our Edit. Watch this space…!
Happy November everyone…
It’s launch time!
Welcome to the first Our Editors’ diary. Here we will keep you up to date with what’s going on behind the scenes at OE as well as in our own lives.
The past few weeks have been the definition of manic for us both. Making the final tweaks to our magazine before launch has kept us super busy.
After a wonderful sunny summer spent with our families in Provence and the Algarve, we are now reveling in that feeling of ‘back to school’, and a nip in the air.
September always feels like a fresh start as the new school term begins we look forward autumn (a season we love) so it seemed the perfect time to launch Our Edit.
Working together over the past few months to devise and create our own magazine website has been amazing – watching our ideas grow and take shape into the features you are reading now.
We have had countless meetings and when we haven’t been able to get together, we’ve worked independently then spent hours on the phone or whatsapp, pinging ideas and thoughts backward and forward.
All the while I have been undertaking a major renovation of my house, which is thankfully almost finished. Six months of builders, dust and a temporary kitchen have all been worth it as my dream home is now almost complete. I’m now enjoying the fun of choosing colours, fabrics and accessories.
Rowan has had her hands full hosting weekends in the country with friends, honing her sailing skills and planning her husband’s surprise birthday party, which was a great night – though we think he might have guessed at the last minute!
So, just like all working mums, we have been juggling a lot to get OE to where it is now but the effort has certainly paid off.
We know that Our Edit will make this the busiest Autumn either of us has ever had, as we strive to put our magazine firmly on the map as a go to site for stylish women everywhere. But we couldn’t be more excited at the prospect of it.
Every few weeks we will bring you updates and highlights in Our Editors’ Diary
We would love to get your feedback too so email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Enjoy the magazine and we look forward to making this a wonderful – and stylish – autumn for us all!
